This 1 oz record represents the 1 oz Buffalo Round format. Private mints adapted James Earle Fraser’s Native American profile and American bison from the Buffalo nickel, first issued in 1913, into a widely recognized .999-fine silver round format. Golden State Mint traces its own silver Buffalo round production to 1981.
Because many unrelated mints use similar imagery, the maker name, edge, diameter, weight, and reverse inscriptions are essential identifiers. The design’s familiarity supports low-premium stacking, but it also makes precise attribution more important than the word “Buffalo” alone.
